Project Development Director (04-14-146)

Location: Northeastern MA, MA, USA

The Project Development Director will develop commercial turnkey PV system projects greater than 200 kW. Responsibilities will include developing projects from inception through contract execution. The Project Development Director must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and be able to create and develop projects primarily through their own independent activities including cold calls, existing business networks and other sales and marketing strategies. Appropriately utilize sales support team to assist compiling customer facing tools.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Meet or exceed quarterly and annual sales goals

  • Develop and prepare campaigns to create interest in market

  • Generate leads through personal networking, referrals, outbound calls, follow-up, and trade associations

  • Follow company sales process:
    • Qualify leads
    • Perform site visits and collect relevant information, including:
      • Customer consumption and utility bills
      • Determination of property ownership
      • Detailed site conditions
      • Shade analysis
      • Financial stability of customer
      • Available area suitable for solar

    • Utilize internal sales support as needed

    • Present proposals by compiling relevant collateral for presentation:
      • Cash flows
      • Layouts
      • Proposals
      • PPTs

    • Influence customer to a buying decision

    • Work with operations and engineering to define the most appropriate technical and material solutions to optimize system competitiveness that meets the customers’ requirements

    • Work with project finance team to secure project financing and develop contract

    • Work with operations, finance and legal to negotiate contract terms and close transactions

    • Gather local market intelligence and expand relationships with appropriate government, regulatory, and utility officials to understand market impact

    • Visit in-progress jobs once per month or two during construction to ensure quality through job completion with the main mission to drive new leads in the geographic area or within that vertical business.

  • Report to Vice President of Sales

  • No direct reports

  • Be available to operations team as needed for development of the customer relationship with RGS

  • Maintain Leads and Opportunities using Salesforce.com:
    • Input new leads daily
    • Input activities and meetings daily
    • Update weekly forecast for management review
    • Provide accurate opportunity information

  • Participatie at weekly sales meeting and one-on-ones

  • Other duties as assigned


 
Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree required; engineering, finance and/or business coursework preferred

  • Formal sales training required

  • Experience selling to business owners, C-level executives and/or board members

  • Engineering, construction, and/or solar employment background preferred

  • 3-5 years sales experience in commercial photovoltaic sales preferred

  • Experience with Salesforce.com preferred (or other CRM database)

  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PPT) required

  • Understanding of finance/business concepts (NPV, ROI, IRR, etc.) required

  • Experience as a project developer in a related field strongly preferred, including energy or real estate development

  • Successful track record in a complex sales environment, with energy experience a plus

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and interface effectively with cross-functional employee groups

  • Ability to spend time in person with customers and travel within assigned territory

  • Proven ability to effectively communicate with customers, work with a team, and drive results

  • Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel and prioritize competing demands

  • Independence and self-motivation, and the ability to thrive under pressure

  • Ability to assess, solve, implement, and communicate outcomes of problems

  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record



Performance:

  • Sell $5 million minimum in the first year
